BRIDGE OF CALLY
EXTENSION
A seamless extension for multi-generational living
The brief
As our clients entered a new phase of family life, their home needed to evolve with them. With children becoming more independent and elderly parents preparing to move in, the brief was clear: create generous, accessible ground-floor accommodation that would allow the older generation to live comfortably within the family home, without compromising privacy for either household.

MULTIGENERATIONAL LIVING
ZONING OF SPACE TO CREATE PRIVACY
Our response
Our design introduces a carefully considered extension that forms a separate wing of the house, creating a self-contained apartment for the elderly parents. This arrangement offers something quietly powerful: the freedom to live independently, with the reassurance of family close by — and the choice of when, and how, to come together.
Thoughtful zoning of the ground floor carefully balances shared and private spaces. Subtle alterations to the existing living room create a gentle threshold between the lively heart of the family home and the quieter, more restful accommodation beyond, allowing daily life to flow naturally between generations without friction.
Within the extension, small but meaningful gestures enhance everyday living. A skylight positioned above the bedroom draws in natural light and frames views of the surrounding countryside, offering a sense of connection to nature even for those spending more time indoors.
The extension mirrors the rhythm, proportions and material language of the existing house, ensuring it sits comfortably within its setting and reads as a natural continuation rather than a later addition. A home designed to adapt gracefully as family life continues to change.
