Breathing new life into an underused loft.

The brief

Our clients had a generous but underutilised loft that required repair work.

They wanted to explore how best to maximise the space, whether through a light refresh or a full reimagining of what the loft could become.

The goal was to unlock its potential while staying aligned with their budget and lifestyle.

Our response

We guided our clients through a structured process to give clarity and confidence in their decision.

A feasibility study, combined with a structural survey, informed two distinct design concepts: one a light-touch refresh, the other a full transformation. Both fulfilled the brief, but in very different ways.

The full transformation introduced a flat roof to maximise head height, creating a top-floor sanctuary with a cinema room, snug, yoga studio, and a large balcony with sea views; an expansive space designed for living, relaxing, and entertaining.

The light-touch option retained the original structure, enhancing internal spaces and incorporating partially enclosed balconies to draw in light while shielding from wind.

Both designs were carefully costed, helping the clients make an informed choice for their home.

Option 1 - A complete reimagining of the top floor

Option 2 - A light touch approach for minimal structural impact
